Already in its eight-generation, the Corvette is still one of the most synonymous American muscle cars out there. However, this is not just an evolutionary step for the muscle cars. It’s actually a revolutionary step up for this gen Corvette: following several experimental CERV prototype vehicles, it is the first mid-engined Corvette since the model’s introduction in 1953, marking Chevy’s venture into the higher-end of the performance car market. It is powered by a new naturally aspirated 6.2 L V8 engine. It is rated at 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque – an improvement of 40 horsepower and 10 lb-ft (14 Nm) over the outgoing C7 Corvette Stingray.
To make matters even more interesting for the eight-generation Corvette, this is also the first one that comes without a manual transmission option in decades. The manual was dropped due to a lack of customer demand, though structural concerns were cited as well. The only other model years not offered with a manual transmission were the 1953–1954 C1 and the 1982 C3. In the Corvette C8, the engine is utilized in sync with an 8-speed dual-clutch automated transmission made by Tremec, which utilizes paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
Performance-wise, the C8 Corvette is a beast. The carmaker claims that the C8 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.9 seconds when equipped with the optional Z51 package. However, when Car and Driver tested it, they recorded a time of 2.8 seconds. Pretty damn fast, whatever you may say. In turn, this makes the Chevrolet Corvette C8 a perfect foundation for an aftermarket build.
For this owner, the Dark Knight theme dominates his build, creating one of the most menacing looking ‘Vettes out there. The vehicle features a black exterior finish, chrome delete, but also, black brake calipers. These are hidden under a set of Forgestar CF10 wheels, adorned with a Gloss Black finish, perfecting the look. For those interested, the wheels are sized 20×9.5 and 20×12 in the front and rear, respectively. The wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, giving plenty of traction for this high-powered American muscle car.
